Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 and couches raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
