Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 labouring, weary, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a high Garden. 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And cups set at hand. 14 cushions ranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
