Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a high Garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 and raised couches, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
