Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
