Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And linen spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
