Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 in a Garden on high, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
