Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 labouring, weary, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
