Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
