Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And by ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
