Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
