Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
