Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
