Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
