Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn; 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
