Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
