Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
