Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
