Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 and ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
