Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
