Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
True are the words of God the Almighty.
