Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My servants. 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
