Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
