Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
