Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
