Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 Serene soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 enter My Paradise! 30
