Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
