Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the break of Day 1 And [by] ten nights 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
