Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And [by] ten nights 2 The multiple and the one, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes and the angels row by row, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
