Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
