Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
