Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
