Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
