Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
