Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
