Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
