Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
