Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
