Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
