Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 Serene soul, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
