Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
