Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
