Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
