Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the break of Day 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
