Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn; 1 and the ten nights! 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
