Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn; 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
