Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
