Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 and the ten nights! 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
