Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
