Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Enter among My servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
