Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
